Choosing Building Materials for Coastal Construction
Coastal sites punish weak material choices. Here is how to think about corrosion, moisture, concrete cover, and finishes.

I am a Civil Engineer from Sri Lanka with over 12 years of international and multidisciplinary experience in construction and infrastructure. My career has combined technical engineering, project leadership, and global exposure across Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Australia.
After graduating in Sri Lanka, I advanced my career in Singapore, one of Asia's most demanding construction environments. I held progressive roles as a Civil Engineer, Engineering Consultant, Project Manager, and Resident Engineer, gaining deep experience in large-scale project execution, regulatory compliance, and precision-driven construction methods.
I have also worked as an Irrigation Design Engineer at Hunter University in Australia, expanding my technical work into water resource management, irrigation systems, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
I founded Buildora Engineers in Sri Lanka, where I serve as Director. Today, we manage 18+ residential construction projects, 2 road infrastructure developments, and 1 bridge construction project across the Northern Province and wider Sri Lanka.
My core areas include project management, construction leadership, residential and commercial development, roads and bridges, irrigation and water resource engineering, quality assurance, feasibility analysis, and sustainable building practices.
I maintain professional connections with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, Engineering Council Sri Lanka, Institute of Engineers Singapore, Institution of Civil Engineers, International Association of Engineers, Sri Lanka Green Building Council, and Management Institute of Technology. I am also progressing toward Chartered Engineer status in the United Kingdom.
My philosophy is simple: engineering is not just about building structures. It is about building trust, sustainability, and long-term impact.

Before concrete arrives, verify reinforcement, formwork, services, levels, cover, cleanliness, and access with this checklist.
